Broderick Jones OT Georgia: Scouting Report

Height: 6’4

Weight: 310

Overall

Broderick Jones is a big, athletic left tackle in Georgia’s balanced offense. In his 3 seasons with the bulldogs, he played in 32 games, starting 19 of them. He is a tremendous athlete and with further development at the next level, he can be a dominant tackle for a very long time.

Pass Game

In pass protection, Jones is quick in getting to his pass sets and has a strong initial punch but he has inconsistent footwork and balance. He needs to be better at staying square and keeping a wide base so as to not over extend himself and get off-balanced. He is very strong but gets pushed back often against power rushes due to his raw footwork and inconsistent anchor. His athleticism makes up for a lot of his technical issues and it allows him to recover when he is beaten early in a rep, he just needs to develop his technique and footwork to grow as a pass protector.

Run Game

In the run game, Jones is a dominant force and consistently opened up running lanes on film. He is extremely powerful and has a strong lower body to drive his man out of the play. He continues to use his athleticism on pulling plays where he gets around the line and up to the 2nd level with ease. At times in space, he will lunge at defenders to make his initial contact rather than taking an extra step causing him to get top heavy and off-balanced but that can be fixed at the next level. His blend of size, power, and athleticism will allow him to be dominant in the run game early in his career.

Last Word

Jones projects best in a run heavy offense that will allow him to run block both at the line of scrimmage and in space. He played primarily at left tackle in college but has experience playing on the right side as well. He has the athleticism and raw talent to be a dominant pass blocker but he needs to vastly improve his footwork and balance before he can consistently matchup against elite NFL edge rushers. With further development and coaching though Jones has the potential to grow into an outstanding tackle.

One-Liner: Broderick Jones is a tremendous athlete at the tackle position and with further development in his footwork and balance he has the potential to become an elite player early in his career.
