O’Cyrus Torrence OG Florida: Scouting Report

Height: 6’5

Weight: 337

Overall

O’Cyrus Torrence is a powerful guard in Florida’s spread offense. He began his career at the University of Louisiana where he played in 36 games, starting 35 of them over 3 seasons. This past season with the Gators, he played in and started all 11 games. He is a good athlete for his size and his college experience will allow him an easier transition into the pros.

Pass Game

Torrence is an excellent pass protector. He plays with a wide base and has a phenomenal anchor against defensive tackles bull rushing through the interior. He is a powerful player and has the size to match up against strong nose guards and 3-techniques. He has very good vision and short area quickness to pick up stunt rushes. While he is dominant at protecting against power rushes, he shows some struggles on film against more athletic interior rushers who can use their speed and quickness to get around him. On film he was dominant and even held his own against Georgia’s Jalen Carter. His ability to protect the passer will be extremely valuable throughout his NFL career.

Run Game

In the run game, Torrence shows very good power and a strong initial punch to get an early push against his man off the line of scrimmage. He has experience playing in both a zone and gap running scheme but plays his best on inside zone plays where he can block downhill rather than moving laterally. He was used as a pulling guard occasionally and had sufficient success but with his size and lack of speed, he is better suited as a downhill lineman who can open up running lanes on the interior.

Last Word

Torrence projects best as an interior lineman in a pass heavy offense. He plays his best when pass protecting and he will be an immediate impact player to begin his career. He has the length to play tackle but his lack of athleticism and experience will force him to be an interior lineman throughout his career which limits his versatility and value. Although guard is not the most important position on the line, his ability to consistently protect the quarterback and open up holes in the run game will make him a valuable asset.

One-Liner: O’cyrus Torrence constantly opens up holes in the run game but his ability to pass protect will allow him to be a consistent starter on the interior for a very long time.
