Will Levis QB Kentucky: Scouting Report

Height: 6’3’’

Weight: 232

Overall

Will Levis is a strong pocket passer in Kentucky’s pro-style offense. Levis began his college career at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky. In his 2 seasons with Penn State he played in 15 games, starting 2. For his remaining two college seasons, he has played in 24 games, starting all of them. He has all the intangibles of a franchise changing quarterback but he needs a lot of development before he can reach his high ceiling.

Pass Game

Levis played in a pro-style offense at Kentucky where he played from both in the shotgun and under center which will allow for an easier transition into an NFL system. In the pocket, he uses inconsistent footwork and throws too many off-balanced throws even when he has time to set his feet. When he does step into his throws though, he puts excellent velocity on the ball and at times, fits the ball into very tight windows. He struggles feeling the pressure in the pocket resulting in too many sacks and fumbles. He played in a system that relied heavily on screens and short passes, but when he needed to read the defense he was slow going through his progressions and missed out on some big opportunities. He throws a very good deep ball and shows flashes on tape of his ability to make throws that very few can. He has good accuracy overall but needs to improve his consistency on short and intermediate throws. He has the arm talent of a generational quarterback but he needs a lot of development to continue growing as a player.

Run Game

Levis was not often used on designed runs from the shotgun but he is a great short yardage runner due to his size and strength. When scrambling, he has the capability of gaining tough yardage up the middle, but he lacks the speed and athleticism to outrun defenders on the edge.

Last Word

Will Levis projects best in a balanced offense that can use the run game to open up plays in the pass game, specifically on play action. He overwhelmingly passes the eye test on every level with his size, strength, and velocity, but he needs to improve his accuracy and pocket awareness. His intangibles are phenomenal and all his major flaws are coachable, meaning that if he gets in the right system and develops his skill-set, he will be a dominant player in the NFL. He is currently a “win with” quarterback but has the potential to grow into a “win because of” quarterback.

One-Liner: Will Levis has the intangibles needed to become a generational quarterback but he will need to make big improvements in his pocket awareness and overall accuracy before he can reach that potential.
