Anthony Richardson QB Florida: Scouting Report
Height: 6’4’’
Weight: 232
Overall
Anthony Richardson is an athletic quarterback in Florida’s spread offense. In his 3 seasons at Florida he played in 24 games, starting 13 of them. He has excellent size and arm strength allowing him to make some unbelievable plays on film.
Pass Game
Richardson shows good footwork and presence in the pocket and has the athleticism to escape from pressure when needed. At times he will look to run early when under pressure rather than to look downfield. When he has time allowing him to step into his throws, he can rip the ball downfield and can fit the ball into the tightest of windows. His arm strength is excellent and he puts phenomenal velocity on his throws. While he shows flashes of very good accuracy he is extremely inconsistent on all levels of the field, short, intermediate, and deep. He is most accurate on his deep balls and his arm strength allows him to throw it very deep down the field but he still needs to improve his consistency on his ball placement. On the run, Richardson has the athleticism to break tackles and outrun defenders and again shows the ability to make accurate throws but he needs to be more consistent. His decision making is also a concern. At times, he will try to do too much when there is no play to be made and he will force the ball downfield resulting in bad interceptions.
Run Game
Richardson was often used on designed runs while at Florida. His size and speed allows him to be used on read options so he can get to the edge and on runs up the middle in short yardage situations. He is a dynamic runner and he has the explosiveness to make big plays at the second level. He can excel in the run game to begin his career and with the right system, can transform an offense just from his running ability.
Last Word
Richardson projects best in a run heavy offense where he can be used on read options and throw it down the field off of play action. He has an incredible arm and if he can improve his accuracy and decision making, he can be an all-around game changer. If he is unable to improve as a passer though, he will have a lot of struggles throughout his career and will likely have to rely on his rushing ability and deep throws to have success.
One-Liner: Anthony Richardson is a project at quarterback, but he has the physical traits to be a dominant player in the NFL if he can develop as a passer and decision-maker.
