Andrew Booth Jr. CB Clemson: Scouting Report

Height: 6’0’’

Weight: 200

Overall

Andrew Booth Jr. is an outside corner in Clemson’s zone heavy defense. In his 3 college seasons, he played in 35 games, starting 15 of them. He is a very athletic corner with a nice blend of size and speed.

Pass Game

In coverage, Booth played primarily on the outside and has experience in both zone and man. In man coverage, he showed very good physicality in press, but he took far too many false steps and lacks the footwork needed to mirror quick receivers. He has the speed to match up on deep plays, but he needs to improve his technique before he can consistently play man in the NFL. In zone coverage, he has the athleticism to cover a lot of ground, but he rarely made plays on film. He has shown the ability to make highlight level plays on the football, but he routinely got beat at the catch point, especially this past season against NC State.

Run Game

In the run game, Booth shows tremendous aggression and drive to the football and excelled at getting off blocks and making plays in the backfield. He does a great job of diagnosing plays early and quickly accelerating to the football. He is an excellent downfield tackler, but he showed some struggles tackling in open space. He needs to improve his balance and shuffling in the open field to be more consistent in making 1 on 1 tackles. With his size, speed, and aggression he can be a very valuable asset in the run game at the next level.

Last Word

Booth projects best as an outside corner at the next level. He has the blend of size, strength, and athleticism you want in a number 1 corner, but he needs to improve his technique in coverage before he can reach that ceiling. He will likely need to be used as a number 2 corner to begin his career. Even if he does not improve his technique, his size and athleticism give him the versatility to be used as safety if needed. He is also an excellent special teams player as well.

One-Liner: Booth has the ingredients of a number 1 corner, but he needs to improve his footwork and technique before he can match up against number 1 receivers at the next level.
