Kennedy Brooks RB Oklahoma: Scouting Report

Height: 5’10’’

Weight: 215

Overall

Kennedy Brooks is a running back in Oklahoma’s run heavy offense. In his 4 college seasons, he played in 38 games, starting 17 of them. He decided to sit out the 2020 season due to COVID concerns but he showed good production this past season. He is a good athlete with very good contact balance and he can be a strong committee running back at the next level

Run Game

Brooks relies on his vision in the backfield to find the open running lane and when he gets going he has the speed to create big plays into the 2nd level of the defense. He had the benefit of playing behind a strong offensive line while at Oklahoma who consistently opened up big holes clearing a path for him to make big plays. He has good cutting ability and shows very good contact balance to bounce off defenders and break arm tackles. He does not do anything spectacular on film, but he is consistent and can make big plays at times. He does not have the playmaking ability to make something out of nothing in a broken play but when things go right he can do what you need him to do to make the play.

Pass Game

Brooks was rarely used as a receiver while at Oklahoma, but he has the hands and athleticism to be a receiving option in the NFL. As a blocker, he was not very productive and showed poor effort at times which will limit his ability to play on 3rd downs.

Last Word

Brooks is not an explosive running back but he makes plays in space and has the lower body strength to bounce off defenders and get up field. He projects best in a committee running scheme where he can be a rotational back on early downs and consistently get good yardage with the occasional big play. His long speed and toughness give him the ability to be used on special teams as well.

One-Liner: Brooks is an all-around running back who can make the occasional big play but his lack of explosiveness and receiving prowess will limit his ability to play all 3 downs in the NFL.
