Paris Johnson Jr. OT Ohio State: Scouting Report

Height: 6’6

Weight: 310

Overall

Paris Johnson Jr. is a big and powerful left tackle in Ohio State’s pro-style offense. In his 3 seasons with the buckeyes, he played in 31 games, starting 26 of them. Even with his large frame he is an excellent athlete and showed a lot of promise on film.

Pass Game

Johnson has a quick first step in getting into his pass set and shows good balance and a strong initial punch to redirect edge rushers early into the play. He has elite size and strength which will allow him to matchup against top NFL edge rushers early into his career. He plays with a wide base and has the athleticism to move laterally and recover against inside moves as well as stay on the hip of speed rushers on the edge. At times he will get pushed back into the pocket on bullrushes but overall he has a strong anchor he just needs to be more consistent. He was dominant in his pass protection on film and can be a reliable left tackle at the next level.

Run Game

In the run game, Johnson continues to show his strength and athleticism by creating running lanes and getting to the 2nd level with ease. He does a good job of driving his legs on initial contact but when he is out in space he tends to stop his feet rather than continuing to drive his man up the field. His quick feet and speed allows him to be used as a pulling lineman. He shows off his athleticism by quickly getting to the 2nd level of the defense resulting in big plays. He is athletic enough to excel in a zone run scheme and has the strength to excel in a power run scheme.

Last Word

Johnson played at left tackle this past season but played guard during his freshman and sophomore seasons. He is a versatile player which will be very valuable in the NFL but he projects best as a left tackle where he can better utilize his elite size and athleticism. On film, he was dominant against some very tough competition and he can be an immediate starter in the pros.

One-Liner: Paris Johnson Jr. is a big-framed, athletic left tackle who excels in both pass and run blocking who will be an immediate starter in the NFL with the potential to grow into an elite player.
