Garrett Wilson WR Ohio State: Scouting Report

Height: 6’0’’

Weight: 192

Overall

Garrett Wilson played primarily on the outside in Ohio State’s pass heavy offense, but he has experience playing in the slot as well. In his 3 college seasons, he played in 33 games, starting 24 of them. He is an excellent athlete and played very well against top competition while in college.

Pass Game

Wilson has very good footwork and speed off the line and has excellent shiftiness to stop and start in his routes resulting in separation down the field. He needs to improve his physicality in his routes though if he wants to be able to separate from hands on corners in the NFL. He has excellent hands and has the ability to adjust his body to make difficult catches away from his body. He is a natural playmaker and is always a threat to the defense with the ball in his hands. After the catch he has the speed and elusiveness to dodge defenders and make huge plays. He has the route running, athleticism, and hands to be a dominant receiver and quarterback’s number one target at the next level.

Run Game

In the run game, Wilson was occasionally used on jet sweeps and screens. He is a natural runner with the ball in his hands and has the vision and speed to be a valuable asset in the run game as a pro. As a blocker, Wilson is not great at keeping his man out of the play and he needs to show more effort before he can be trusted on runs to his side of the field.

Last Word

Wilson can play anywhere on the field but projects best as a number one outside receiver. He runs great routes with his speed and change of direction and does a good job of consistently creating separation down the field. With his excellent hands, he will be very reliable on 3rd downs and can be a trusted target for any quarterback. He was not used in special teams on film but with his athleticism, I believe he could grow into an excellent kick/punt returner in the NFL.

One-Liner: Garrett Wilson has the versatility and playmaking ability to be a dominant player in any offense at the next level, but he needs to improve his physicality to better separate from defenders.
