Kyle Hamilton S Notre Dame: Scouting Report
Height: 6’4’’
Weight: 220
Overall
Kyle Hamilton played everywhere on the field during his career in Notre Dame’s Hybrid defense. In his 3 college seasons, he played in 31 games, starting 19 of them. He missed a majority of this past season due to a knee injury but that should not affect him going forward. He is a phenomenal athlete, especially for a player of his size, and he was the leader of the Notre Dame defense, consistently calling checks on the back end.
Pass Game
Hamilton is constantly calling audibles for the defense and lines up everywhere on the field. He has the ability to play deep, in the box, or even in the slot playing coverage. In man coverage, he has the fluidity and technique to man up against any tight end and even a few receivers. In zone coverage, he has elite range and makes play all over the field. He has excellent vision and instincts allowing him to quickly diagnose the play and explode to the football. As a deep safety he has the range to cover from sideline to sideline which makes it very difficult to throw over the top of him. He is always where he needs to be and his intelligence allows him to consistently read the quarterback and make plays on the football. He was rarely used on safety blitzes but with his blend of size and speed he should excel as an outside pass rusher as well.
Run Game
Against the run, Hamilton is an excellent tackler and does a great job of using his speed and length to chase down the play and make big plays behind the line of scrimmage. His vision, instincts, and burst to the football make him a dominant run defender and he can always be counted on to make the big play when needed. He is excellent at reading the play and quickly reacting to where open running lane is going to be.
Last Word
Hamilton projects best as a strong safety but he has the versatility to be used all over the field. He has very high football intelligence and has elite size and athleticism. He can do it all from the safety position. He can cover in zone and man, make open field tackles, and is a constant disruption for the offense. He was used on special teams as well which adds even more to his position flexibility.
One-Liner: Kyle Hamilton has the physical attributes, athleticism, and intelligence to be an instant franchise player for any defense in the NFL.
