Quinshon Judkins RB Ohio State: Scouting Report

Height: 5’11

Weight: 219

Overall

Quinshon Judkins is a powerful running back in Ohio State’s pro-style offense. He began his collegiate career at Ole Miss where over 2 seasons he played in all 26 games, starting 19 of them. He then transferred to Ohio State this past spring and he has played in all 13 games for the Buckeyes this season. He is a physical runner who is not afraid of contact but his lack of playmaking ability will limit his ceiling at the next level.

Run Game

In the backfield, Judkins shows the patience and vision to follow his blocks and get through the open lane but oftentimes he will just put his head down and try to run through defenders rather than trying to make them miss. He has good feet and sufficient speed but he relies on his size and strength to gain big yardage. He has good balance and can break arm tackles but he goes down after first contact far too often on film. Many times during this past season he was 1 on 1 with a defender in the backfield and lacked the playmaking ability to make them miss and lacked the contact balance to break their tackle often resulting in a loss of yardage for the offense. Once he gets to the second level of the defense he has the speed to gain big yardage but he again lacks the elusiveness to get around defenders and he goes down often on first contact limiting his big play ability.

Pass Game

As a receiver, Judkins did not have a lot of production during his college career but he has the hands to be a reliable checkdown option at the next level. After the catch he can get up field when he has space but when defenders are right on him he gets tackled immediately after getting the ball. Although he lacks the playmaking ability to be a productive receiver, he has the size and physicality to excel in pass protection. On film he shows good vision in finding the incoming defender and is physical at the block point when blocking blitzing linebackers. He has experience both in cut blocking and blocking head up and with continued development he can be a very good pass protecting running back in the NFL.

Last Word

Judkins projects best in a gap heavy run scheme where he can follow his blocks and use his physicality to drive defenders back and gain tough yardage. He lacks the playmaking ability to be a 3 down back but with his physicality on short yardage and in pass protection he can be an excellent rotational back in the pros.

One-Liner: Quinshon Judkins is a physical back who can excel in short yardage situations but his lack of playmaking ability will limit his impact in the NFL.
