Abraham Lucas OT Washington State: Scouting Report

Height: 6’6’’

Weight: 316

Overall

Abraham Lucas is a dominant right tackle in Washington State’s run and shoot offense. In his 4 seasons of action, he played in 43 games, starting all of them. He played right tackle for his entire career, but he has the athleticism and strength to be used on the left side if needed. He has been reliable throughout his entire career, and he has the talent and experience to be a day 1 starter in the NFL.

Pass Game

Lucas has very good footwork and balance when getting to his pass set and he has an excellent anchor. Even against powerful edge rushers, he has able to hold his ground and limit their impact in collapsing the pocket. He has the athleticism to stay square with speed rushers on his outside hip and is able to guide them out if the pocket. He shows very good awareness in his ability to pick up multiple pass rushers and can stay square with stunt rushers. At times, he will play too far on his heels allowing inside moves to get past him, but he was rarely beaten on film. He began his career in an air raid offense so he has plenty of experience in pass protection and he can be a reliable pass protector early on in his career.

Run Game

In the run game, Lucas has a strong initial punch, and he is very good at down-blocking his man to the interior of the line to open up holes on the outside. Even with his large size, Lucas was used often as a pulling lineman and was very successful. He is also able to get up field and make big blocks at the 2nd level of the defense. Although he has good strength, he still has room to grow. He has a very large frame and with added mass, he can excel in the run game in the NFL.

Last Word

Lucas projects best as a right tackle in a pass heavy offense that also uses a zone running scheme. His athleticism and technique will allow him to be used in many different schemes but his ability to protect the quarterback will be very valuable for teams that like to air it out. He can be an instant starter in the NFL and can be a long-time starter at the right tackle position.

One-Liner: Abraham Lucas has remarkable athleticism for his size and has the technique and experience against quality pass rushers to be an immediate starter at the next level.
