Peter Skoronski OG Northwestern: Scouting Report

Height: 6’4

Weight: 315

Overall

Peter Skoronski is a mauling left tackle in Northwestern’s balanced offense. In his 3 seasons with the Wildcats, he has played in 34 games, starting all of them. He played only left tackle on film but he has experience playing center from his time in High School. He is an experienced player and that combined with his run blocking ability will allow him to be an immediate impact player in the NFL.

Pass Game

In the pass game, Skoronski shows flashes of being a very good protector but he has a lot of struggles as well. At times, he shows a very quick first step in getting into his pass set but he has inconsistent feet and got beat by both speed and strength on film. Against bull-rushes he will often get pushed back onto his heels and into the pocket disrupting the play. He will also play too high and get swiped off too easily against bigger, more athletic pass rushers. He has struggles changing direction on pass rush moves to the inside when he kick steps to the outside. For a tackle, he is a bit undersized and with his lack of length and athleticism in pass protection he will have struggles in the NFL if he does not move to the interior.

Run Game

In the run game, Skoronski is a mauling lineman who excels at opening up running lanes and taking defenders out of the play. He has excellent upper body strength and does a great job of driving his legs after initial contact. As a pulling lineman he showed good movement skills in getting around the line and up the field to his man but in space he shows struggles with his balance and will go to the ground too often. He will occasionally get his hands around his man which could result in holding penalties but that should not be an issue in the pros.

Last Word

Although Skoronski played left tackle on film, he projects best as a guard in the NFL. He lacks the length and footwork to play on the outside but at guard, he can still excel in run blocking while using his strength to pass protect against defensive tackles.

One-Liner: Peter Skoronski is a mauling run blocker with a lot of college experience but he needs to move to guard if he wants to be utilized to his full potential.
