Overall

Bryan Bresee is a large defensive tackle in Clemson’s 4-3 defense. In his 3 collegiate seasons, he played in 26 games, starting 21 of them. He suffered a torn ACL during his sophomore season in 2021 ending his season early and missed multiple games this past season due to a kidney infection. He was the number 1 rated recruit coming out of high school but has yet to reach that potential. He shows flashes of his athleticism on film but has a lot of questions going into the pros.

Pass Game

Bresee lacks explosiveness at the snap and often gets stood up on initial contact. At times he uses his strength to get a good initial punch but even then he still struggles to get off his block. He rarely drives his legs when locked up with offensive lineman and he has a very inconsistent motor. When he does get an open lane to the quarterback, he lacks the speed and balance to efficiently get to the quarterback and bring them down. He shows the ability to use his hands to get around lineman but that is a very rare occurrence on film due to his inconsistencies.

Run Game

Bresee is much better suited to stop the run than to rush the passer. He has great size and strength which allows him to plug up running lanes and take up a lot of space on the line of scrimmage. He lacks the speed and lateral quickness to succeed on outside runs but on A and B gap runs he can be a productive defender in the NFL. He is a very strong tackler once he gets his hands on the ball-carrier and with his size he should be able to bring down NFL sized running backs.

Last Word

Bresee has experience playing all over the line of scrimmage but projects best as a 0-technique who can play as a 3-technique if needed. He also projects best as an early down defender where he can stop the run but should be subbed out in obvious pass situations due to his lack of explosiveness. In the NFL he can be a good run defender and strong rotational defensive lineman with the ability to be used on special teams as well. His injury history and lack of explosiveness on film is a very big concern though and he will need a lot of development before he can be a consistent 3-down player at the next level.

One-Liner: Brian Bresee is a strong interior run defender but his injury history and lack of explosiveness will limit his opportunities to succeed in the NFL.
