Travon Walker EDGE Georgia: Scouting Report

Height: 6’5’’

Weight: 275

Overall

Travon Walker is a powerful edge rusher in Georgia’s 4-3 defense. In his 3 college seasons, he has played in 36 games, starting 15 of them. He has incredible size and length and played as both a 7 technique and 3 technique at Georgia. He is a versatile player with a ton of upside.

Pass Game

Walker lines up in both a 3-point stance and standing up on the edge. He has a good first step off the line and has a great initial punch. He is a very twitchy player. He does a very good job of using his hands to separate from his man then either use his power to bull rush or his bend to get around the edge. On film, he rarely uses complex pass rushing moves to get around his man making it easy for linemen to square up with him and get their hands on him. When linemen get a good grasp on him though, he uses his strength and non-stop motor to fight through his man and continue working to the quarterback. He the elite intangibles to be a dominant edge rusher but he needs to continue to improve his pass rushing moves. He also is versatile enough to play in coverage, but he plays his best on the line of scrimmage.

Run Game

Walker is a very good tackler and continues to work to the football throughout the entire play. He has the size and power to set the edge in the run game and he does a very good job of using his arm length to extend his man and read the play before reacting to the football. He can also be used against the run on the interior with his size and strength but with his frame and athleticism, he is best suited to set the edge on the outside.

Last Word

Walker is an incredible athlete and can be a versatile player at the next level, but he projects best as a 4-3 edge defender. He has a ton of upside and with further development in his pass rushing abilities he can be a dominant pass rusher on the edge and can excel on 3rd downs. He can also be an excellent special teams player as well.

One-Liner: Travon Walker has the length, athleticism, and power to be a phenomenal edge rusher at the next level, but he needs to add to his pass repertoire before he can reach his extremely high ceiling.
