Jameson Williams WR Alabama: Scouting Report

Height: 6’2’’

Weight: 189

Overall

Jameson Williams played on both the outside and in the slot in Alabama’s balanced offense. He transferred to Alabama after two years with Ohio State where he played in 22 games, starting 6 of them. This past season he played and started in all 15 games. He suffered a torn ACL in the national championship game but is expected to make a full recovery, but there is no telling how that will affect his speed going forward. He is a phenomenal athlete and has the speed to outrun anyone who matches up against him.

Pass Game

Williams has excellent speed and acceleration off the line and primarily uses his speed to create separation down the field. He has very good catching ability. He can adjust his body to make tough catches and has the strength to make contested catches between multiple defenders. He is a very good route runner and has the route savvy to attack the corners leverage then use his acceleration to get past them. After the catch he continues to use his excellent speed to break off big plays. He does not have excellent agility and strength though to dodge defenders in a confined space. He is a pure big play threat with his size, phenomenal speed, and catching ability.

Run Game

In the run game, Williams was rarely used on jet sweeps, but he has the speed in vision to create big plays. As a blocker on screens, Williams shows very little effort to get his hands on his man and drive them out of the play which results in big plays for the defense and needs to be improved going into the pros.

Last Word

Williams can be used all over the field but with his size and excellent speed, he projects best as a number one outside receiver. He runs very good routes and creates a lot of separation deep down the field with his speed. His catching ability will make him a reliable third down receiver as well. He was used on special teams while at Ohio State and has the athleticism and playmaking ability to be a very good returner at the next level.
