Jalen Pitre S Baylor: Scouting Report

Height: 5’11’’

Weight: 195

Overall

Jalen Pitre is a strong safety in Baylor’s balanced defense. He played primarily down near the line of scrimmage and in the slot. As a redshirt senior, he played in 5 seasons while in college. In those 5 seasons, he played in 52 games, starting 32 of them. He plays with a lot of toughness and with his experience, can be an immediate impact player in the NFL.

Pass Game

In the pass game, Pitre has experience in coverage and was used often on blitzes. In coverage, he has the speed and physicality to match-up with both tight ends and running backs. He has excellent football IQ and instincts which allow him to excel in zone coverage as well. He made plays on the football on film but did not have a lot of production against the pass in his career. As a blitzer, he flies to the football and shows the physicality and tackling ability to be a versatile defender at the next level.

Run Game

Against the run, Pitre continues to show his physicality and athleticism as he uses his speed to get to the ball-carrier and make plays all over the field. Even with his lack of size he is a very good tackler and is a secure tackler in open space. He has some issues getting off blocks against physical receivers but his instincts and tackling ability will allow him to be a strong run defender in the pros.

Last Word

Pitre projects best as a strong safety at the next level, in a scheme where he can be used all over the field. He is not a prototypical strong safety with his lack of size but he can truly do it all on the field and his football IQ will allow him to be an impact player for a long time. His experience on blitzes and coverage skills will allow him to excel on 3rd downs and his athleticism and physicality will make him a dominant special-teamer.

One-Liner: Jalen Pitre is undersized, but his aggression and instincts will make him an immediate impact player and he can be used all over the field.
