George Pickens WR Georgia: Scouting Report
Height: 6’3’’
Weight: 200
Overall
George Pickens is an outside receiver in Georgia’s balanced offense. In his 3 college seasons, he played in 26 games, starting 8 of them. In March of 2021, he tore his ACL in his right knee causing him to miss almost the entire season besides a few games at the end of the season where saw limited snaps. When he is able to play though, he is an excellent athlete and played very well against some of the best corners in all of college football.
Pass Game
Pickens has good speed off the line does a good job of using his strength and hands against press to create separation and get up field. Even with his size, he can quickly change direction and he runs very good hitch and dig routes. He has incredible ball skills with his ability to adjust his body and high point the ball to make tough contested catches. He rarely dropped any passes on film and even if he is tightly covered, he can use his frame to box out his man and create some separation. After the catch, he has very good speed and good elusiveness to get past defenders and gain extra yards. He is a true number one outside receiver and his ability to make contested catches down the field make him a great big play threat.
Run Game
Pickens shows very good strength and aggression to block in both the run game on screens. This blocking ability increases his value at the next level and gives him to flexibility to be used as a downfield blocker on outside runs.
Last Word
Pickens projects best as a number one outside receiver but he has the versatility to be moved along the line of scrimmage prior to the snap. He does not have a lot of playing experience due to injuries but when he is on the field he is a dominant player. His size and excellent hands make him a very reliable receiver and he can excel on third downs. He may not have the flexibility to be used in the return game, but his size and speed allow him to potentially play as a gunner on punt coverage.
One-Liner: George Pickens has the size, athleticism, and ball skills to be a special player in the NFL.
