Bryce Young QB Alabama: Scouting Report

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 194

Overall

Bryce Young is a dynamic passer in Alabama’s balanced offense. In his 3 seasons with the Crimson Tide, he has played in 35 games, starting 26 of them with one more left to be played this season. He is a phenomenal athlete and his quick release and arm strength allow him to make very accurate throws anywhere on the field.

Pass Game

In the pocket, Young has excellent pocket awareness and always stays calm even when the pocket is collapsing around him. His speed and balance allows him to break tackles and escape the pocket when needed and on tape, he shows the ability to make incredibly accurate throws on the move and off-balance. He is a tough player and is not afraid to make big throws knowing he is going to get hit. He does a good job of going through his reads and he always looks to make big plays down the field once he is outside the pocket. He has a very quick release and he can throw accurately from many different arm angles to get the ball around defenders. He puts very good velocity on his throws and can fit the ball into NFL level windows. He has great touch on his intermediate throws, especially over the middle of the field and he throws a beautiful deep ball. At times, he will try to do too much when the pocket is collapsing which results in big sacks but more often than not he will create plays out of these situations.

Run Game

While at Alabama, Young was not often used on designed runs but when he finds space to run while in the pocket, he is an excellent runner. He has very good speed to outrun front 7 defenders and has the elusiveness to dodge defenders in the second level. He can, and should be used on many designed runs in the NFL to keep the defense on their toes and give him the chance to create big plays with his legs.

Last Word

Bryce Young has the size, athleticism, and arm talent to be a star in the NFL. He makes NFL level throws on film and he makes incredible plays with his athleticism and arm talent that only a handful of current NFL quarterbacks can make. He projects best in an offense that will let him air it out down the field while also using him as a runner. He is a “win because of” quarterback and the more times the ball is in his hands, the better the offense will be.

One-Liner: Bryce Young is a generational talent and barring injury, he will be a dominant starter in the pros.
