BJ Ojulari OLB LSU: Scouting Report

Height: 6’2

Weight: 248

Overall

BJ Ojulari is an athletic outside linebacker in LSU’s 3-4 hybrid defense. In his 3 seasons with the Tigers, he played in 34 games, starting 24 of them. He had a lot of production as a pass-rusher in college and although he is a bit undersized to be a 3-down, on the line defensive end, he has the versatility to make a significant impact from all over the field.

Pass Game

As a pass rusher, Ojulari has a very quick step and is explosive off the line of scrimmage. He has good strength in pushing his man back into the pocket at times but excels more as a finesse rusher rather than a power rusher. He has a very good pass rush repertoire showing off his swim, rip/pull, and spin move on film. He has excellent bend around the edge to dodge outstretched arms of the offensive tackles and he has the athleticism to keep his balance and get flat to the quarterback. He plays with very active hands and his speed and quickness allows him to be used on long stunts on the interior to add a wrinkle to the defense. He has a lot of experience in coverage, primarily covering the flats and checkdown receivers and he has the athleticism to make plays in coverage in the NFL.

Run Game

In the run game, Ojulari is a very good tackler and makes a lot of plays in space but he has a lot of struggles in getting off blocks due to his lack of size. When setting the edge, he often gets pushed off his mark allowing for the ball-carrier to get to the edge and on zone runs to his side of the field he is often driven off the ball resulting in big gains. When he has space though, he shows excellent burst to the football and has the speed to quickly chase down the ball-carrier and he made some big plays in the backfield on film.

Last Word

Ojulari is a very athletic player and his versatility will allow him to play all over the field, but he projects best as a 3-4 outside linebacker where he can rush the passer off the edge and occasionally drop into coverage. He has the skillset to be used in sub packages as well. He can be used as a blitzer through the middle or even on the line on the interior on long stunt rushes. He is a dynamic player who can get to the quarterback in many different ways and with his athleticism, he can be a day 1 starter on special teams as well.

One-Liner: BJ Ojulari is a dynamic pass rusher and his athleticism and versatility will allow him to be used all over the field but he plays his best when he can pin his ears back and get to the quarterback.
