Ashton Jeanty RB Boise State - Scouting Report

Height: 5’9

Weight: 215

Overall

Ashton Jeanty is an explosive running back in Boise State’s pro-style offense. In his 3 seasons with the Broncos, he has played in 40 games starting 26 of them. He had historic production in his last collegiate season, and he has the talent to make an immediate impact at the next level.

Run Game

Jeanty has plenty of experience playing in both gap and zone schemes during his college career and he has the versatility to excel in both systems. At the handoff he has excellent patience and vision to follow his blocks and find the open running lane. He has quick feet along with the balance to make quick jump cuts in the backfield to dodge defenders and get into the open gap. He is explosive and gets through the line of scrimmage in a hurry. He has elite contact balance to bounce off tackles while still keeping his speed after initial contact. Once he gets to the second level he has the speed and acceleration to outrun the defense and create home-run hitting plays. At the end of plays he continuously drives his feet to push the pile and gain extra yards. He is a jack of all trades runner who can play in any scheme and is a big play waiting to happen.

Pass Game

As a receiver, Jeanty was mostly used as an outlet receiver but he has experience running angle routes and wheel routes down the sideline. He has good hands and continues to use his vision and quickness to make defenders miss after the catch. He plays his best when he is in space and he should thrive in the screen game in the NFL. Although he is slightly undersized, he is not afraid to stand in the pocket and block incoming defenders. He is already an above average blocker in the pass game and with further development he can be relied on as an every down player.

Last Word

Ashton Jeanty has the vision, speed, and contact balance to excel at the next level. He projects best in a gap scheme where he can use his patience to follow his blocks but he has the versatility to thrive in a zone scheme as well. His playmaking ability as a receiver and experience in pass protection makes him a true every down running back.

One-Liner: Jeanty has everything you want in a franchise running back and with his versatility in both the run and pass game, he can be an immediate difference maker at the next level.
