Marvin Harrison Jr. WR Ohio State: Scouting Report

Height: 6’3

Weight: 205

Overall

Marvin Harrison Jr. is a dynamic playmaker who played both on the outside and in the slot for Ohio State’s pro-style offense. In his 3 seasons for the Buckeyes he played in 38 games starting 25 of them. He was extremely productive and played a key role in Ohio State’s high powered offense over these past few seasons.

Pass Game

Harrison has good footwork off the line of scrimmage and has the quickness to create early separation in his routes. When lined up in the slot he creates huge mismatches against smaller nickel corners and even with his size, he can beat them on short routes. When playing on the outside he has very good speed and acceleration at the start of his routes and has long speed to take the top off of defenses. He is smooth in his routes and ran a diverse route tree in college. He is very good at tracking the ball in the air and has excellent ball skills to create plays all over the field. He has a very large catch radius and has the body control to extend his arms to high point the ball while maintaining his balance of keeping his feet in bounds when on the sideline. He is physical at the catch point and has the strength to overpower defenders at the catch point. After the catch, Harrison has breakaway speed and can create big plays in open space but he lacks the shiftiness to make defenders miss in short areas. He was used occasionally on screens while at Ohio State and has the acceleration to quickly get up the field but he does not tend to lower his shoulder and bounce off tackles rather he gets to open space to use his speed.

Run Game

Harrison was rarely used in the run game while at Ohio State, but he has the speed and acceleration to be used on sweeps and end-arounds at the next level. As a blocker he shows good effort in blocking on the edge and creating space for the running back and with his size and strength, he should be a strong blocker in the NFL.

Last Word

Harrison has the size, speed, and ball skills to be a dominant force at the next level. With his experience playing both the outside and the slot, he can be used all over the field but he projects best as a number 1 outside receiver. His excellent hands and physicality will make him extremely reliable on third downs and he will be a consistent playmaker early in his career.

One-Liner: Marvin Harrison Jr. is everything you want in a number 1 receiver and with his elite blend of size, speed, and hands, he will be difficult to stop throughout his entire NFL career.
