Xavier Legette WR South Carolina: Scouting Report

Height: 6’1

Weight: 223

Overall

Xavier Legette is a physical “Z” receiver in South Carolina’s pass-heavy offense. In his 5 collegiate seasons, he played in 53 games with 32 starts. He had very minimal production prior to this past season but he was dominant on film during his senior year. He was used all over the field in the Gamecocks’ offense and has the physical tools to be an immediate impact player in the NFL.

Pass Game

Legette lined up both on the outside and in the slot. He has good speed off the line of scrimmage and the acceleration and top end speed to take the top off of defenses. He is a big-body receiver but still has the route running technique to create separation on hitches and comeback routes. He does not have elite route savviness but he has the tools to continue to grow in his route running. He is explosive at the top of his routes allowing him to create separation in the middle of the field on digs. He has excellent ball skills and a massive catch radius. He shows the athleticism and vertical ability to high point the ball down the field. He has the strength to make catches in tight coverage and when he is about to get hit. After the catch he is a dynamic playmaker. He has the acceleration to get up the field in a hurry combined with the elusiveness to dodge defenders and strength to break tackles. He excels with the ball in his hands and his ability to come down with jump balls consistently makes him a threat all over the field.

Run Game

Legette was occasionally used on sweeps and end-arounds on film and he shows the playmaking ability to make defenders miss and gain big yardage. His playmaking skills will make him an immediate weapon in the run game at the next level. When lined up on the outside he shows the strength and physicality to block secondary defenders and make holes for the ball-carrier on the edge as well.

Last Word

Legette projects best as a “Z” receiver in a balanced offense at the next level. His skillset and playmaking ability will allow him to carve out a role in any offensive scheme and he will be an immediate weapon with the ball in his hands. His ball skills and ability to make plays in tight coverage will make him a reliable weapon on 3rd downs. He was also used as a kickoff returner while at South Carolina and had some success, increasing his value.

One-Liner: Xavier Legette had limited production prior to this past season which is a concern, but on film he has the size, speed, and playmaking ability to grow into a low end number 1 receiver or at least a high end number 2.
